The Environmental Working Group recently reported that there is some evidence that commercial sunscreens might actually increase the risk of some of the deadliest forms of skin cancer perhaps because free radicals are released as sunscreen chemicals break down in sunlight.

There are some good natural sunscreens, such as this one from Dr. Mercola, but a more frugal way to protect yours – and your families – skin from the sun this summer is to make your own using natural ingredients that have SPF properties. For example, Shea butter has an SPF 6-10 and Raspberry Seed Oil an SPF 30-50.
